![]() ![]() If you need the most clean headroom possible, get the 1001. The 1001 will get way too loud before it starts to get that tone, and the 700 will get it earlier. If you need the amp to be pushing its limits to get that tone, get the 700. ![]() If you get most of your tone from pedals, get the 1001. I'd say if you're torn between the 7, find out if you want the "Ride the Rails" tone from a GK. On my 1001 I had the boost and woofer pots maxed at all times. I can still get a nice grit from the amp itself if I turn the gain really high and lower the master volume. And if I wanted more modern clank tone I could just dial it in from my pedals. If I turned them all off, I could have a nice tube~ish well rounded tone. I chose the Fusion over the non-fusion due to getting most of my tone from my pedals. Since I went with more pedals and things on the floor, I figured that it made sense to downsize the rack to a lightweight class D amp. The 1001 was my go to for a long time until I decided to downsize from a rack setup (1001 + Sansamp RBI) to a Darkglass B7K for most of my tone. ![]() But I have a GK MB800 Fusion, and a 1001Rbii. I'm not going to go too in depth because this has been beat to death on. I'd go and listen myself, but not a single shop in town has the MB series heads in stock. I like the idea of keeping my head under 10 pounds, but I'm curious how the 700/1001RB compare tonally with the MB800 or the MB Fusion 800. Or maybe I just REALLY don't like Thunderbirds, if I'm absolutely honest.Īnyway, I'm interested in the 1001RB-II as it has a bit more power and I play very loud gigs, but I also came across GK's new MB series heads. Now I've heard one of these before (I have a friend who swears by his GK 700RB/Thunderbird combo) and thought it was alright, but I guess with time and age my tone preferences changed. Most of them were ok, a couple were blegh, but then I plugged into a GK 700RB-II and fell in love. I've been a Markbass guy for the last 5 years or so (LMTube800), but on a whim since I had my bass at GC anyway I started plugging it into the heads they had lying around. I'm older and wiser now and understand that's what I get for going for the entry-level el-cheapo. I owned a GK Backline head a long time ago, thought it was absolutely useless. ![]()
